How to Send Your Order
Preferably, send your order by Mail or Fax.

Phone: We are not reliably by the phone to take orders, but feel free to try – we can always call you back the next day, just let us know when to call.

Email: Never send us your Credit Card information via email, as it is not secure. You can send us an email with order details, and then fax or call with the credit card number.

Confirmation: of your order will be sent unless the order arrives within two weeks of shipment.

California, Oregon, Washington & New Mexico: Your plants must be sent bare-root, or treated by us, to avoid hitchhiking by Japanese Beetles. Your plants must be shipped soil-free to comply with agricultural regulations against Japanese Beetle. There is a $1 per plant charge to prepare your plants, but ONLY we have to remove the soil from our potted plants. For plants which we normally send bare-root there is no extra charge. For plants which, for some reason, we must ship in soil, there will be an additional expense for treating them with insecticide, which would be determined with your order.
Custom Growing and Special Orders
If you are keen to order plants which are not in the Mail-Order Plant List, please do feel free to ask, as we may be able to send them. We can custom grow plants for large or small orders, and institutions, including plants which we do not normally carry. Please inquire.
Plant Shipping Seasons & Delivery
Shipping Seasons:

Spring: shipping runs from mid-April to early June. Summertime shipping is possible for special orders, or certain plants.

Fall:
shipping runs from early September to mid-October.

Preferred Ship Date:
Please specify if you have a preferred ship date. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences, although we are unable to make any promises about when your plants will ship, as we are often at the mercy of the weather.
Shipping Delivery and Charges, and Other Details

Plants are normally sent via United States Postal Service Priority
If you cannot accept plants by the Post Office, other arrangements can be made to ship through UPS or Fedex, but the cost will probably increase. Ask us, and we will advise you.

Delivery Address
Because we cannot guarantee delivery on an exact date you should give us an address where the box can be left even if no one is at home. Please be sure to give us your full street address, including Rd., Dr., Ave., Blvd., etc, because without this there may be a delay, or a delivery surcharge, which we would then have to charge you for. We are not responsible for deliveries delayed due to incorrect addresses.

Going to be Away?
Please let us know in a timely manner if there are dates when you will be away or unable to receive your plants – none of us want your plants to languish unattended on the stoop!

To Alaska, Hawaii, Canada or overseas
Sorry, we do not ship plants.

Payment
We accept checks, money orders, and Visa, MasterCard and Discover. We would greatly appreciate it if you do not use a credit card for orders under $20.00. Purchase orders from institutions are accepted.

Vermont Sales Tax
Add 6% to orders from Vermont, or those to be picked up at the nursery. Sorry possums, shipping charges are now taxable, so please add the tax to the order total.

Substitutions
It is inevitable that we will run out of certain items, and so it is most helpful to us if you give us a list of your preferred substitutes. These plants will be of equal or greater value. You can also simply tell us the type of plants you would like as substitutes. We will send substitutes unless requested otherwise, in which case a credit slip or refund will be issued.

Our Guarantee
Our plants are guaranteed to be healthy, true to name, and to arrive in good condition. If proven to be otherwise, or if you are in any way dissatisfied (barring improper care or natural disaster), we will replace them, offer credit or send a refund. We do make mistakes from time to time, and would not want any of our valued customers to suffer in silence, but would vastly prefer to have the opportunity to make amends if called for. Any obvious problems should be reported to us within two weeks.

About Our Mail Order Plants

In 2010 we are primarily mail-ordering phlox, although we will likely be adding to the list for next year. For mail-order, please be sure to choose from the Mail-Order Plant List, not the Nursery Plant List. In past years we have most often sent bare-root field divisions, we are gradually making the transition to pots. The sizes are indicated on the plant list.
Plant Sizes
Most plants have been grown and wintered in pots, although some will be field dug to order.
Most will flower the first year.
Pot A – is the usual size, a generous 3 7/8” wide x 5 1/8”tall pot.
Pot B – is the medium size, 3 ¼” wide x 4” tall pot.
Pot C – 2 ¼” wide x 3” tall.
“FD” or Bareroot indicates a Field Division, which will be dug, and shipped bare root.
Hardiness and Winter Mulching
When selecting plants you may presume that any stock we grow is hardy to Zone 3. We do not use winter mulch on any of our plants. However, if your garden hasn't the benefit of regular snow cover, you may want to apply loose winter mulch. In this case, cover the garden with a loose material such as straw, marsh hay, pine needles or evergreen boughs – any material which will not pack down. Apply this mulch after the ground has frozen, and be sure to remove it in early spring. The mulch will keep the ground a little warmer, but its primary use is to prevent the soil from freezing and thawing, which is what causes the most damage to plants.
